Getting Bibb County Court Records
Match your request to the right office. The Bibb County Circuit Clerk holds Circuit and District Court records. Civil, criminal, and domestic relations files sit there. Child support, small claims, state traffic, juvenile, and warrants do too. Estates and probate files stay with the Probate Office. City ordinance, misdemeanor, and traffic files belong to each municipal clerk. Send a request to the wrong place, and it comes back empty.
Several channels serve different needs. Just One Look sells statewide Case Details. You buy one search at a time. Alacourt.com offers subscriber access to details and images. Open Circuit and District files can be viewed free at the Bibb clerk's counter. For availability, price, delivery, and old files, call 205-926-3103 or write P.O. Box 185, Centreville, AL 35042. The clerk offers no general email, fax, drop-box, or copy-request form.
- Identify the court, division, case style, approximate year, and case number if known.
- Inspect or request the Case Action Summary or civil docket so the dated entries can identify the needed filing.
- Choose paid remote access, free in-person inspection, a phone inquiry, or a written mail request.
- State the exact entry date and title, and say whether a plain or certified copy is needed.
- Ask for the full quote, then prepay and provide delivery or return-postage details as directed.
Alabama Rule 30 governs the paperwork side. It lets the clerk require a written request, collect payment first, and bill the requester for mailing. Staff can explain procedure and availability. They cannot give legal advice.
Three Bibb County Record Products
A docket entry and a filed document are different products. Criminal cases use the Case Action Summary. It serves as the dated index. Civil matters get what Rule 79 calls the civil docket. Either one shows that a complaint, motion, order, verdict, or judgment entered the file. The actual text lives in the pleading or order itself. A certified copy is different still. The clerk authenticates it. It is a true reproduction of an original filed or recorded with the court.
| Product | Best Use | Request Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Case Action Summary or civil docket | Trace dates, status, settings, and filed items | Case number, parties, year, and division |
| Filed document | Read the exact pleading, order, or judgment | Entry title and filing date from the docket |
| Certified copy | Obtain a clerk-authenticated reproduction | Exact document plus certification request |
That distinction keeps a Bibb County court record request tight. When exact wording matters, get the document, not just the docket line.
Court Record Types
The Bibb County Circuit Clerk images records electronically and runs several divisions, but not every court in the county answers to that office. Name both the case type and the court in your request. Common Circuit and District materials include:
- criminal Case Action Summaries, charging papers, pleas, orders, judgments, and sentencing entries;
- civil complaints, service returns, answers, motions, orders, verdicts, and judgments;
- domestic-relations and child-support filings that remain open to the requester under applicable access rules;
- small-claims, District civil, and state-traffic case files;
- paper or electronic plain copies and properly certified copies.
Probate records stay with the Bibb County Probate Office. City ordinance and municipal traffic records sit with the city clerk. A transcript is separate again. It comes from the court reporter, who needs the hearing and judge information, and a docketed hearing does not guarantee one was ever made.
Bibb County Records: Free or Paid
No free anonymous portal covers Bibb County court records. Open records can still be seen. Alabama Rule 33 keeps AOC electronic services separate from the public right to inspect and buy copies at a Circuit Clerk's office. The free route is in person: open Circuit and District material at 35 Court Square East in Centreville, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, closed noon to 1:00 p.m.
Remote convenience costs money. Just One Look charges $9.99 for a case-number search or a name search with one Case Detail. A no-match search still bills the $9.99. Each additional case costs another $9.99. Alacourt.com runs on subscriptions. AlaFile handles filing, service, and pro-se e-notices rather than anonymous record searching. A self-represented party can register, print the enrollment, and show it with state photo identification to the clerk for future electronic orders in that person's own case.
Free access is still access: Rule 30 preserves no-charge inspection at the Bibb County clerk’s office even when remote electronic access requires payment or registration.
Inside a Bibb County Court Record
Alabama rules offer the best reliable list of fields. Rule 26.9 defines the criminal Case Action Summary. Civil Rule 79 defines the civil docket. Behind those dated entries, the full case file holds the underlying documents they index.
| Case Identity | Case number, style or caption, court, and division. |
|---|---|
| Filed Papers | Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and other pleadings with entry dates. |
| Process and Returns | Summonses, subpoenas, warrants where public, and records of service or execution. |
| Appearances and Settings | Participation by counsel or a self-represented party, plus scheduled proceedings and later changes. |
| Orders and Outcomes | Rulings, bench notes, verdicts, judgments, dispositions, sentences, and notices of appeal as applicable. |
| Exhibits and Attachments | Filed evidence or attachments when part of the public file and not sealed or restricted. |
Short labels can hide the story. A financial-history field is not the whole sentence in a criminal case. A docket line naming an order is no substitute for the signed order itself.
Writing a Bibb County Records Request
Bibb County has no general copy form and promises no turnaround time. So your written request has to do the work. Give the clerk your contact information. Add the case number, the case style, the approximate year, and the court division. Name the exact document or entry date you need. Say whether you want a plain or certified copy, pick a delivery method, and state the most you will pay without further approval.
Older files need more guesswork on your part. Add the likely filing or disposition year and the case type. Rule 30 allows archival searches, though Bibb County publishes no digital coverage start date, no microfilm inventory, no archive fee, and no retrieval time. Yes, the courthouse dates to 1902. That alone does not mean every record since then still sits onsite. Call before mailing money. Ask whether the clerk wants a written request, prepayment, or a self-addressed stamped envelope.
Note: A missing online result may reflect jurisdiction, spelling, coverage, age, or restriction, and does not by itself prove that no case existed.
Fees and Certified Copies
Under Alabama Rule of Judicial Administration 30, looking, copying, searching, and certifying are four separate services. Walking in to inspect costs nothing. The rule's comment sets an ordinary-copy rate of $0.25 per page. Fees can also come from an AOC directive. Confirm the current total before you count on it. A search that takes real clerk effort may carry its own fee. Certification simply authenticates a copy of an original filed or recorded item, and postage stays your cost.
| Item | Verified Amount or Status |
|---|---|
| In-office inspection | Free for open records under Rule 30(I) |
| Ordinary copy | Rule 30 comment states $0.25 per page; confirm current total |
| Certified divorce decree | $10 through the documented Bibb domestic-relations route |
| General certification | No Bibb amount published; request a quote |
| Search or archive work | Permitted fee, but no Bibb amount published |
| Mail delivery | Requester pays postage |
The Bibb domestic-relations office lists one narrow mail option: send a $10 money order and a self-addressed stamped envelope for a certified divorce decree. That price applies to that service only, not to other judgments or orders. The county's FY2025 report shows $3,334.49 in copy receipts, proof of active copy service but not a fee schedule you can rely on.

Federal Records Outside Bibb County
A federal case tied to Bibb County never lands in a Bibb Circuit Clerk file. Bibb sits in the Western Division. That division belongs to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama. PACER carries federal docket entries and documents. CM/ECF is the court's filing system. State Circuit, District, municipal, and probate records stay put with their state or local custodians. The Northern District's official PACER and CM/ECF explanation lays out that same split inside the federal system.
That federal page works well as a routing aid. PACER handles federal dockets, while a Bibb County court record from an Alabama trial court stays with the proper Alabama clerk.
Bibb County Record Privacy Rules
The Alabama Rules of Court-Record Privacy and Confidentiality took effect in 2025. They define court records broadly. The definition reaches appellate, Circuit, District, Juvenile, Small Claims, Municipal, and Probate courts. Broad coverage does not merge everything into one database, though. Anyone seeking a Bibb County record still has to find the right custodian.
Civil Rule 5.1 generally trims these identifiers. Social Security, taxpayer-identification, and financial-account numbers shrink to the final four digits. It also lets an unredacted filing be sealed. A redacted version stays public. E-filing policies call for minors' initials plus care with victim locations and other sensitive material. A portal may not show the same placeholder. It can vary by situation. Judge access by the governing rule. Rely on the clerk's response, not an assumed screen label.
- Redacted
- Protected details are obscured while a public version remains available.
- Sealed
- A filing or whole matter is withheld from ordinary public access by rule or order.
- Restricted
- Access is limited by a rule or statute, often based on the record category.
- Expunged
- A statutory process changes how an eligible case record is maintained and disclosed.
Sealed Records and Public Access
Most open Bibb County Circuit and District files can be inspected. Knowing a name or number is not enough to defeat a restriction. Juvenile legal and social records are confidential. Youthful-offender fingerprints, photographs, and other records stay closed to ordinary inspection. Adoption files seal after final judgment, and a court order can seal other material too. A party may hold access rights the general public lacks. Identification or judicial authorization may still be required.
Key Alabama access rules:
Ala. Code § 36-12-40 protects citizens’ inspection and copying of public writings, subject to lawful exceptions.
Ala. Code § 12-17-94 requires clerks to keep a consolidated docket sheet and provide certified transcripts on application and payment.
Ala. Code § 12-15-133 restricts juvenile legal and social records.
"No match" is just a search result. It does not prove a Bibb County court record is sealed, expunged, or nonexistent. Check the court, your input, the date range, and your access status with the actual custodian.
